(More customer reviews)I've been a proud "beetle" owner in the past so when I saw you could buy a "Baja" Bug body for the Slash I just had to get it.
The plastic seems as durable as the stock slash body. It comes with a "fake" beetle engine in the back which I cut out (prefer the look without it). It also comes with a spoiler, which I attached with the included hardware.
This is the first body replacement I have done (actually the first time I ever used spray paint) and I found it very easy, and the results were awesome. However this body came with no instructions, and assumes you know how to do it (or have asked someone). So here are my tips:
1. Buy the right hardware. You will need curved lexan scissors to cut out the bug shape and wing from the lexan; and a special hole punch tool to make the holes for the antennae and post mounts. I bought these from a hobby store.
2. Cut out the body and the wing. Punch the holes and fit it to your slash before painting. You will need to remove the slash side nerf bars. If you keep the engine, you will need to remove the rear guard.
3. Wash the body with warm soapy water before painting.
4. Dry and mask the windows (on the inside) with the supplied masks. Keep your hands clean at all times.
5. Get the right paint for lexan. Pick your colors and backing color (white, black, silver, or gold). I bought Tamiya Red with a White backing paint.
6. Paint as per directions. Spray in sweeps 6 to 12 inches from the body. You paint the inside of the body. Do light coats. Start with the color. The color will still appear translucent when held up to the light but solid in the shade, held to the ground. Don't forget to paint the wing!
7. Wait till the next day to spray the backing color.
8. When dry, remove the window masks by peeling the edges toward the middle of the window.
9. Remove the outer film.
10. Attach the wing if you want.
11. Cut out the decals and apply them.
12. Tape the sides of your chassis and the inside of the body where they contact. I also tape around the post holes.
13. Enjoy!!!
The body looks awesome and performs better than the stock body. The stock bodies wheel arches will scrap the wheels when the suspension bottoms out! The Baja body does not do this, so handling is better.
